Pick your starting 15 – Goalkeeper

Goalkeeper

Only two players have held the number one jersey for the Orchard County in 2020, with Blaine Hughes starting in all of Armagh’s games bar one.

Niall Brady claimed the spot between the sticks in round two of the Dr McKenna Cup against Tyrone earlier in the season.

Hughes has been a nailed on starter in recent seasons and Brady certainly offers some strong competition for the goalkeeper shirt.

Blaine Hughes

After making his Championship debut in 2017, Blaine Hughes has made the number one jersey his own.

The Carrickcruppen man has protected the Armagh goal on sixteen occasions in the Championship over the last three years, and has brought some regularity to the spot.

Hughes is usually one of the first names on Kieran McGeeney’s team sheet and should have been making his seventeenth Championship appearance this weekend against Derry.

Niall Brady

Brady was drafted into the Armagh set up at the end of last season following his displays in Collegeland’s Junior Championship run which earned him an Armagh All-Star.

The youngster earned his first appearance against Tyrone in round two of the McKenna Cup and although he didn’t enjoy the best of nights, some of his kick outs were a joy to watch.

With his inexperience at this level it’s hard to suggest Brady would have seen any game time in the opening round of the Championship, but undoubtedly provides Kieran McGeeney with a good option.
