Pick your starting 15 – Midfield

Midfield

One of Armagh’s strongest lines, Kieran McGeeney has many options when considering his midfield pairing.

Both O’Neill brothers have spent time around the centre of the park, but Niall Grimley, Jarly Og Burns and Stephen Sheridan are the main candidates to fill the number eight and nine jerseys.

Niall Grimley

The Madden midfielder has been a regular in the orange and white in recent years, commanding one of the centre field spots.

Strong in the air and great on the ball, Grimley can be a real driving force behind the Armagh attack while not forgetting his defensive duties.

He has owned the number eight jersey in 2020, wearing the shirt in everyone of Armagh’s seven games across the McKenna Cup and National League.

Jarly Og Burns

Burst on to the scene last year and earned plenty of plaudits for his performances in his debut season.

His goal against Cavan in Clones will live long in the memory and it was that score that best summed up the Silverbridge giant.

Fast and powerful, his direct running is a key component of his game and Burns is a handful for anyone around the middle area.

Stephen Sheridan

Had been trialled at both full back and centre half back earlier in the season but midfield is undoubtedly Sheridan’s best position.

A hard worker around the engine room, the Forkhill native is well fit to bomb forward to kick a score when called upon.

Sheridan offers a great option for the middle third and has been a trusted lieutenant of Kieran McGeeney’s over the last number of years.
