As reported by RTE Sport this morning, only senior inter-county games are permitted during a level 5 lockdown.
The level 5 lockdown comes into effect at midnight tonight.
The Irish government announced a level 5 lockdown on Monday, with the understanding that ‘elite sport’ would continue.
GAA county teams fall under the umbrella of ‘elite sport’, but it seems there has been a lack of clarification.
The government have now announced that the GAA championships will go ahead, but only at senior level.
This comes as a huge disappointment to the Armagh minors, who were due to begin their Championship campaign this weekend.
Ciaran McKeever’s under 17 side were meant to travel to Derry on Saturday and take on the Oak Leaf County in the first round of the Ulster Championship.
However, RTÉ Political Correspondent Paul Cunningham has confirmed that the no clarification has been made just yet.
The GAA has yet to make an official announcement.
