Ross returns to Armagh after AFL stint

Armagh and Cullyhanna ace Ross McQuillan has decided to return home following his one-year spell in Australia.

McQuillan was signed by AFL side Essendon in 2019, the same club that homed Tyrone’s Conor McKenna. Like McKenna, he has chosen not to return in 2021.

It’s likely that the 21-year-old will now link up once again with Kieran McGeeney’s Armagh side for the National League.

A return to training date is now up in the air, however the league is due to begin in February, with the Orchard County hoping to retain their place in Division One.

McQuillan last featured in the orange and white in a league game against Clare in 2019, having made his championship debut against the same team twelve months prior.

The St Pat’s man featured for his club in the 2019 senior championship, just days before heading down under.

Cullyhanna of course will also benefit from his decision as they look to gain promotion to Division 1A when the 2020 leagues are wrapped up this year.
