Donnelly named Player of the Year

Armagh’s Ciara Donnelly was named as the 2020 Junior Player of the Year at the virtual Camogie All-Stars event on Saturday evening.

The corner forward was in terrific form last season and helped guide the Orchard County to All-Ireland Junior success.

Her heroic performance in the showpiece against Cavan, when she hit 0-13, saw her pick up the Player of the Match award on the day.

Donnelly was the top scorer for her side throughout the All-Ireland series, grabbing 1-22 across their three outings against Roscommon, Tyrone and Cavan.

The Eglish woman was also named at full forward on the Soaring Stars All-Star team, one of two Armagh players rewarded for their efforts.

It was a special night for the Donnelly household as Ciara’s younger sibling Leanne, who was also nominated for Player of the Year, joined her sister on the Soaring Stars All-Star team.

Leanne was named at wing half forward having played a starring role in the corner for Armagh during the 2020 season.

The younger of the two was also in fantastic form during the All-Ireland decider and struck a personal tally 0-4 against the Breffni County, bringing her total to 1-7 for the year.

It was a great night for Armagh Camogie and the county will look forward to another promising year in 2021, under the guidance of new manager Mattie Lennon.
