Ladies secure league semi spot

Armagh 2-13 Cavan 0-10

Armagh continued their winning form last weekend to secure their place in the Division 2 league semi-finals.

They started their league campaign with an impressive win over Tyrone and saw off Cavan on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Lauren McConville and Aimee Mackin helped ease the Orchard into the semi-finals.

The sides were evenly matched during the opening exchanges and tied 0-2 apiece after eight minutes.

Fionnuala McKenna and Mackin matched scores from the opposition before Aoife McCoy put them in front.

Blaithin Mackin doubled the lead as McCoy grabbed her second. Cavan tagged on to more to reduce the margin to the minimum.

McConville’s first half goal helped put some daylight between the teams as Cavan added another point.

Midfielder Niamh Marley raised the final white flag of the opening period to put Armagh up 1-6 to 0-5 at the break.

A goal from Aimee Mackin seven minutes after the turnaround gave the Orchard some breathing space.

Cavan claimed a hat-trick of points, but Mackin halted the scoring spree with her first of four points on the trot.

McKenna added two to her total to stretch the lead to nine, with time running our for the visitors to salvage something.
