Tyrone legend Conor Gormley believes what happened during Armagh’s league meeting with the Red Hands was “overhyped”.
The former Tyrone defender was a recent guest on The Sideline Eye Podcast. He detailed his thoughts on the league meeting back in February.
“I don’t know if that game will have much of an impact on this game really, it’s done and dusted,” Said the three-time All-Ireland winner, who also believes Tyrone will have a siege mentality heading into this game.
“That siege mentality, you look at Tyrone last year in Killarney against Kerry. Wiped off the field and everyone writing them off before the championship and then look what they done.
“I think they’ll be using the Derry game the same way they did last year. Completely wiped off the field, everything went wrong for them.
“They looked like they were out on their feet early doors that day. I think they’ve been knuckling down at training, training fairly hard.
“Sunday will really bring it out in them playing Armagh, being wrote off in all quarter, no hopers. They have a great opportunity on Sunday to go out and express themselves and show what they’re capable of doing.”

Overhyped
Four Tyrone players picked up red cards for their parts in the melee during the league. Armagh were only handed one red, with Greg McCabe sent to the line.
There wasn’t much in it according to the Carrickmore man, but it will help Tyrone build that siege mentality.
“That league game, yes it will get a lot of column inches, but I don’t think it will have any bearing on what will happen.
“I think it probably got overhyped that game a wee bit, a lot made out of it. Yes, there was pushing and shoving and things you don’t want to see definitely in a Gaelic game.
“It was overhyped a wee bit and I don’t think it will have any bearing on Sunday. But I think that siege mentality that Tyrone sort of like, backs against the wall stuff, I think they’ll come out fighting on Sunday definitely.”
