Ballyhegan crowned Intermediate champions

Ballyhegan 6-20 Mullabrack 1-7

An outstanding second half blitz saw Ballyhegan secure the Intermediate Championship title against Mullabrack.

Five goals during the second period opened up a huge gap between the sides, with Blathnaid Hendron making all the difference.

The Ballyhegan full forward claimed an outstanding personal tally of 4-11. She was assisted throughout by county stars Grace Ferguson and Eve Lavery.

The sides were fairly even at the beginning, but Hendron’s first major after 15 minutes handed Ballyhegan the initiative.

Kate Crilly got the game up and running with an early pointed free, which was matched by Ferguson’s first.

Katie Rose Pickering traded scores with Hendron before Ballyhegan grabbed the first three-point of the afternoon.

Lavery and Pickering cancelled each other out while Hendron added to her growing tally. Ferguson and Shauna Gallogly both pointed for their respective sides.

Ellen Lennon and Lavery exchanged efforts after another Hendron brace, to leave six the difference at the half time break. 1-8 to 0-5.

Lavery claimed the first of the second half while Hendron netted to make 10 points the difference.

Ferguson added another score while four points in a row from Hendron made the score 2-14 to 0-5.

Mullabrack pulled one back as corner forward Aine Rice raised a green flag, which was quickly followed by a point from Pickering.

The floodgates opened in the last ten minutes with four more goals coming for Ballyhegan, along with a few points.

Hendron added two goals, as did Lavery, to open up a 28-point difference by the time the referee called for the ball.
