Ladies beat Laois as winning form continues

Armagh 0-10 Laois 0-5

Armagh continued their winning start to the league with a double score victory over Laois on Sunday afternoon.

It’s been a super start to the Division Two campaign, with wins coming against Cavan, Roscommon, Monaghan, Tyrone and now Laois.

Sunday’s encounter in the Box-It Athletic Grounds was the first time this season that Armagh didn’t rattle the net.

But still, they did enough to come out on top against the O’Moore County in what proved to be a low-scoring affair.

Eve Lavery, who chipped in with 0-3 from play, opened the scoring for the hosts inside the opening minute.

Catherine Marley doubled Armagh’s lead before Aimee Mackin fired over to put them three points ahead.

Lavery added her second before Laois finally got off the mark midway through the opening half.

The travelling team claimed their second point just before the break, with Armagh ahead by two at half time. 0-4 to 0-2.

Laois narrowed the gap to just a single point at the start of the second period, but that was as close as they got.

Maeve Lennon stretched Armagh’s advantage before Mackin pointed to leave three the difference once again.

Grace Ferguson and Lavery both split the posts before Laois grabbed their second point after the turnaround.

Two final points from the point of the boot of Armagh’s top scorer Mackin left them five ahead when the referee blew the full time whistle.

The victory leaves Armagh at top of the table with two games remaining. The ladies have a break next weekend before facing into two clashes with Westmeath and Tipperary.
