Camogie team named for Mayo meeting

New Armagh Camogie manager Sean Hughes has named his team to take on Mayo in the opening round of the league.

The Orchard County welcome Mayo to Middletown on Saturday afternoon and will hope they can get their campaign off to a good start.

The reigning Ulster champions lost their opening league game last season to Cavan by one point.

Hughes has named a fairly strong looking team, with a number of clubs represented in the playing panel.

Line up

Ciarrai Devlin has established herself as the number one goalkeeper and retains her position between the sticks.

In the full back line, Ballymacnab defender Tiernan Maguire will protect the goal as she is stationed on the edge of the square.

To support Maguire in the last line of defence is Derrynoose’s Siodhna Woods and Middletown’s Nicola Woods.

Keady youngster Aislinn Harvey lies out at centre half back, with Cara Crilly named on the wing.

Last years joint captain Gemma McCann is on the other wing and she is a real leader for this Armagh team.

Granemore’s Corinna Doyle starts at centerfield, and she’ll be partnered around the middle by the experienced Leanne Donnelly.

Jennifer Curry is back for another season in the orange and white. The former Cork start lines out at wing half forward.

Curry had an exceptional year for the Orchard County last season and will once again be a key player.

Michelle McGuigan lines out at centre half forward and will put in a lot of hard yards. Her Ballymacnab clubmate Ellie McKee starts on the other flank.

Inside, Katie Comiskey will begin the game at corner forward while Eimear Smyth will have the number 14 on her back.

A lot of the scoring burden may fall on free taker Rachael Merry, in the absence of sharpshooter Ciara Donnelly.

It’s a talented line up for the first outing and Hughes will hope his team can get a good result on Saturday.
