Seventh heaven for ladies as Armagh win again

Armagh 3-12 Tipperary 0-10

The Armagh ladies earned their seventh league victory of the season, ending the campaign at the top of the table.

They overcame each opposition they face throughout the league and will now look ahead to a Division Two final.

Shane McCormack’s ladies already had their place secured in the decider before travelling to Tipperary on Sunday.

But still, they didn’t take their foot off the gas and make the long journey home with another three points in the bag.

Two goals from Caroline O’Hanlon and another from Kelly Mallon helped the Orchard win by 11-points in the end.

The sides were evenly matched early on. Blaithin and Aimee Mackin (2) saw their early efforts matched by the opposition.

But three in a row from the Orchard County saw them nudge ahead and they never looked back. Niamh Marley, Aimee Mackin and Catherine Marley all raised white flags.

Aimee Mackin and Aoife McCoy traded scores with Tipperary before the short whistle. Armagh headed into the break with a three-point lead, 0-8 to 0-5.

Caroline O’Hanlon made her mark on the game with an early second half point, making her second appearance of the season.

Blaithin Mackin followed that up with a score, before O’Hanlon rattled off two goals in quick succession.

O’Hanlon flicked home to the net after being played through by Mallon while McCoy assisted Armagh’s second goal.

Kelly Mallon followed that up with another three-pointer, palming an Aimee Mackin pass into the net to open up a 11-point lead.

Aimee Mackin fired over her sixth, with Tipperary hit back with a point, but the result was well beyond doubt.

The win leaves Armagh in fine form ahead of the Division Two league final. They’ll face Laois in two weeks’ time at Croke Park.

Armagh Scorers: Caroline O’Hanlon 2-1, Aimee Mackin 0-6, Kelly Mallon 1-0, Blaithin Mackin 0-2, Niamh Marley 0-1, Catherine Marley 0-1, Aoife McCoy 0-1.
