Madden and Granemore draw while Clady win

Division 1A – Madden 0-11 Granemore 1-8

In the only Division 1A game of the evening, Madden made an incredible second half comeback against Granemore to claim a draw.

The Raparees were reduced to 13 players at the start of the second half but came from five down to earn a point.

Karl McQuaid’s three-pointer looked to have sealed the deal, but the home side levelled late on.

Joe Sheridan and Louis Hughes traded scores early on while Madden midfielder Patrick Carr nudged the hosts in front.

Three on the trot of the O’Neill brothers, Jason (2) and Eoghan handed Granemore a 0-4 to 0-2 lead.

Madden got back on level terms as Conor Grimley (free) and Donal Rafferty both raised white flags.

Ryan Rafferty’s goal-bound effort was brilliantly saved by Jamie Sheridan. Rafferty had to settle for a point, while Jason O’Neill doubled their lead.

Madden’s chances of a revival were dealt a huge blow just before the break. Eoin Grimley received a black card while Patrick Carr was sent to the line for an off the ball incident.

Granemore headed into the break the happier of the two teams, a man up and two-points ahead, 0-6 to 0-4.

Second half

Things didn’t get much better in the second half for Madden. Aron McKenna picked up a red card within the first 90 seconds of the turnaround.

Granemore netted with the first score of the second period. Hughes dropped a ball into the square and Karl McQuaid was on hand to punch to the net.

Two Grimley frees narrowed the gap to three as Granemore were reduced to 14 for ten minutes as substitute Darren Rafferty picking up a black card.

Grimley and Rafferty traded scores with Jason O’Neill and Brendan Boylan before Eoin Grimley blasted over when the goal was at his mercy.

Substitute Ciaran Rafferty narrowed the gap to one before Sheridan fired over the equalising score to steal a draw.

Division 3B – Clady 3-14 Clann Eireann II 2-11

Clady picked up their first points of the Division 3B campaign, defeating Clann Eireann IIs on home turf.

Goals from Colm Savage and two by Liam Doyle, both in the second half, were the main scores for Peter Beagan’s side.

Clann Eireann II carried a two-point lead into the half time interval, leading at the break 1-6 to 1-4.

But Doyle’s first goal fired Clady ahead for the first time in the game. Points from Malachy McGeown (2), Kieran Connolly and Sean Savage put them six ahead.

Doyle rattled the net once again and drove Clady further ahead in the dying minutes, 3-13 to 1-10.

Ion Hughes pulled off a number of fine saves for the hosts. He was beaten late on as Clann Eireann II closed the gap.

But Clady had the hard work done and finished the game six-points ahead of the visiting team.
