Division 1A & 1B Match Reports – Week Five

Division 1A – Clann Eireann 1-15 Armagh Harps 0-9

Clann Eireann overcame reigning Division 1A league champions Armagh Harps in Friday’s top of the table clash.

After a cagey first ten minutes, the Harps opened the scoring through Tom O’Kane, but Clann Eireann scored three in a row to lead by two after 20 minutes.

O’Kane reduced the deficit from a free before Clann Eireann rattled over a further three scores. That put the hosts 0-6 to 0-2 up at the break.

A rampant Clann Eireann scored 1-04 without reply in the first ten minutes of the second period to take a commanding lead, with Aodhan McConville rattling the net.

Harps rallied as Luke McKeever, debutant Dara McCloskey and Conor Lavery (5) raised white flags. But Clann Eireann eased to a nine-point win with Ryan Henderson, McConville, Jack Conlon and Ruairi McDonald all getting on the scoresheet.

Division 1A Round Up

Elsewhere, Madden overcame Mullaghbawn away from home with an outstanding second half surge.

The sides were tied 0-5 apiece at the break but a Niall Smith goal early in the second half put Madden in control.

Shea Loye done the majority of the scoring for the hosts, but it was Madden who ran out 1-11 to 0-8 winners.

Killeavy earned a hard-fought victory at home against Granemore, with one-point the difference in the end, 0-10 to 0-9.

Division 1B – Maghery 2-11 Dromintee 1-10

Two superbly taken goals from Ronan Lappin and Kevin Robinson handed Maghery a four-point win over Dromintee.

Lappin netted just before the break while Robinson added another three-pointer three minutes after the turnaround.

Dromintee opened the scoring with Ryan Hughes pointing after a superb catch. But Maghery responded with two quick fire scores from Robinson (free) and Stefan Forker.

Lappin and Padraig O’Keefe, both assisted by Stefan Cusack, widened the gap before Hughes added his second for Dromintee.

Odhran Loughran traded scores with O’Keefe while Robinson put Maghery 6-3. That lead was stretched when Lappin burst through the defence and rattled the net.

Loughran and Robinson exchanged dead ball efforts, with Maghery six up at the interval, 1-7 to 0-4.

O’Keefe played provided at the start of the second half, feeding Robinson who fired the ball to the top corner of the net.

Aidan Morgan (free) and Shea McArdle closed the gap before Robinson added to his growing tally with his first point from play.

Robinson hit another while Aaron Boyle traded scores with Oisin Cushnahan while Ciaran Lappin did likewise with Cathal McKenna.

Dromintee rattled off 1-2 in the final moments. Shea McArdle netted while Loughran and McKenna raised white flags, but it wasn’t enough to get something from the game.

St Peter’s 2-15 Sarsfields 1-8

St Peter’s picked up their first win of the Division 1B campaign when they defeat Sarsfields on Friday evening.

The hosts burst into an early lead with James Moore’s 5th minute goal helping them go 1-6 to 0-0 ahead.

Oisin Ginesi, Moore, Paddy McGibbon, Barry Creaney (2) and Andrew McAlinden all raised white flags.

Sarsfields eventually opened their account when Paul McGeown slotted home a penalty after 19 minutes.

The sides were matched score for score for the remainder of the half. Colin Stevenson, Thomas McAlinden and McGeown all pointed for the High Moss men.

St Peter’s matched those efforts through Moore, McGibbon and Ryan Kelly to carry a 1-9 to 1-3 lead at half time.

Paul McGaughey and McGeown traded scores with Eoin McCormack and Barry Creaney, while Kevin McAlinden did likewise with McGibbon.

Kelly added another before Ginesi hit a second goal for the home side. Sarsfields responded with points from Stephen McArdle (45) and Fintan Kelly.

But St Peter’s finished the stronger of the two with Kelly and Moore adding late scores to see the host ahead by ten at full time.

Elsewhere, Clan na Gael saw off Grange by three-points. The sides were level 0-4 each at the break, but Clans got the better in the second half to win 0-11 to 0-8.
