Division 1B Match Reports – Week Seven

Division 1B – Shane O’Neill’s 0-13 Clan na Gael 1-9

A late Paul O’Rourke free confirmed a stunning comeback from Shane O’Neill’s, coming from six down to win by one.

Youngsters James Austin and Callum O’Neill got Clans up and running before Eoin McCabrey palmed home a goal after five minutes.

Ruairi O’Brien (free) traded scores with O’Neill while three from Paul O’Rourke narrowed the gap to two.

Matthew Lennon fired over a mark to give the visiting side a three-point advantage at half time. 0-4 to 1-4.

Diarmuid Loney and O’Rourke exchanged scores while Austin slotted over two frees. O’Rourke then had a chance to reduce the gap, but his spot kick was brilliantly saved.

Clans went up the field and opened up a six-point lead through Loney, but Shane’s dominated the rest of the game.

Odhran Doherty, O’Brien (2), O’Rourke all pointed to make it a two-point game, as Austin knocked over a free to make the goal the difference.

Shane’s rattled off the last four scores. Two each from O’Brien and O’Rourke edged the hosts ahead as they claimed what seemed an unlikely victory.

Elsewhere in Division 1B, Maghery continued their impressive form to sit joint-top of the table along with Silverbridge.

The two-time Senior Championship winners fought off the challenge presented by St Peter’s to win by four-points.

Three-points was the margin at half time, with the home side ahead 1-5 to 1-2. They pushed on after the turnaround to win 3-10 to 2-9.

Sean Hackett, Ronan Branagh and Conor Forker rattled the net for Maghery, while Barry and Niall Creaney raised the green flags for St Peter’s.

Silverbridge bounced back from their first defeat of the year, adding to Grange’s early season woes.

Goals from Tom Hamill, Fionnan Burns and Tiarnan Murphy saw the ‘Bridge win 3-19 to 0-6.
