Masters lose to old rivals Down

Armagh 0-10 Down 1-9

A second half surge by Down saw them overcome the Armagh Masters by two points in Pearse Og Park On Saturday afternoon.

Armagh built up a five point advantage in the first half but Down finished the better of the two sides.

Both steams were wasteful and missed chances at the start of the game. It was Armagh who finally broke the deadlock on the 14th minute.

John McKeffery popped over the first score of the day, while Down almost opened their account at the other end.

Mark Stratton shot was goal bound but Armagh keeper Shane Donnelly pulled off a fantastic diving save to keep the hosts ahead.

Armagh doubled their advantage with Shane McKeever tapping over a free right in front of the goal posts.

Mark Beattie won the resulting kickout and began another attack and set up Armagh’s third point of the game, this time from Dara Edwards.

Edwards doubled his own personal tally three minutes later before Seamus McConville hit a beauty to put the Orchard County five in front.

Down battled back just before the break with three points in succession through John Fegan (2) and Stratton. That left Armagh two up at the break, 0-5 to 0-3.

Austin McKenna traded scores with Fintan Murray before scores from McKeffery, Brian McGeary and Beattie put Armagh five up.

But it was all Down for the next period of play as they reeled off 1-3 on the bounce to shoot into the lead for the very first time.

Ebby Toal offered a response for teh Orchard County and his scored levelled the game with just a few minutes remaining.

The Mournemen claimed the last two points of the day however, both from Paudie Bradley, to capture a two point win.
