u15s compete with West Cork in decider

Saturday 12 Aug – Kildare – 12pm

Armagh’s u15 Academy team take on West Cork this weekend in the Michael Glavey’s Dermot Earley Cup final in Kildare.

The Orchard youngsters have been in fine form this season. They’ve built up a five game winning streak to reach the showpiece.

Armagh have overcome Antrim, Roscommon, Sligo and Wexford on their way to reaching the final against West Cork.

Reaching finals is nothing new to this team, having won this very same National u15 competition last year.

That group has progressed even further. A number are involved in the Armagh u16 team that meet Tyrone in the Buncrana Cup final.

The management team includes Martin Kelly and Kevin Murray, assisted and supported by Gary Mallon, Dan Barton, Phil O’Hanlon and Paul Hagan throughout the year.

“It is great to see the Armagh Academy U15 and U16 Age Groups competing at such a high level consistently over recent years,” said manager Martin Kelly.

“And it will now hopefully transfer through to the Minor Age Grade as well. It is an U15 Football Academy Panel consisting of 25 players covering 19 clubs.

“This is a very special day for this group of 25 players who have now been entrusted with representing their clubs and families along with all the rest of the players on the squad each of whom have contributed immensely to reaching the final.”

“Special thanks should also go to all the lads clubs who have been very supportive throughout the year.

“This group of players started out on the 11th of April this year. To date they have completed almost 20 training sessions and competed in six match days including the final.

“The commitment shown by this group through the year has been immense,” added Kelly. “We can only hope it is rewarded with another victory and a National title for them and Armagh on Saturday.”
