Dromintee 0-10 Killeavy 1-13
Killeavy overcame their near neighbours Dromintee in the opening round of the Senior Championship with six to spare in the end.
A scoring spree at the start of the second put some daylight between the sides, and Killeavy saw out a comfortable victory.
The home side got the game up and running, with Ryan Hughes Jnr pointing after three minutes.
The lead didn’t last long however as Conor O’Neill played through Micheal McNamee for an equalising score.
McNamee then edged Killeavy ahead as he blasted his effort over Aidan Morgan’s crossbar when a goal looked on.
Morgan tied things up again for the hosts, with the Dromintee net minder nailing a long range free to make it 2-2.
Paul Martin edged Dromintee in front before O’Neill, after a quick one-two with Ronan McGuinness, split the posts.
Ryan Hughes Snr nudged Dromintee ahead while Paul Quinn’s effort at goal was blocked and ricocheted over the bar.
Ciaron O’Hanlon landed his first score of the day while Cathal Boylan did likewise to put Killeavy two ahead.
Dromintee finished the scoring like the started it, with a Ryan Hughes Jnr point. That left the score 6-5 at the interval in favour of the hosts.
Killeavy made a brilliant start to the second half with seven points in a row. McGuinness (mark) and McNamee (free) got them up and running.
Shea Magill extended their lead with a massive free from way out and repeated the trick moments later to put Killeavy five ahead.
They added further scores from McNamee, and their midfield partners Boylan and Callum O’Hare to go eight in front.
Dromintee finally got off the mark through Cathal O’Neill, but any hope of a revival was shattered in the next attack.
After a quick one-two with Conor O’Neill, O’Hanlon blasted the ball to the back of the net to essentially end the game as a contest.
Morgan and Niall Courtney reduced the gap while Morgan made two superb point-blank saves at the other end.
