Sarsfields 0-5 Crossmaglen 2-12
Crossmaglen picked up their first win of the Senior Championship group stages as they saw off Sarsfields by 13-points.
The Rangers finished level with Clan na Gael in the opening round, having led by four towards the end of the game.
But Crossmaglen weren’t in that danger on Sunday evening. They led from start to finish against the High Moss men.
Sarsfields, who earned a first-round victory on home soil against Mullaghbawn, only scored once in the first half.
Aaron Kernan got things underway after two minutes of action with the first score of the opening half.
Cross followed it up with an Oisin O’Neill effort before Jamie Clarke rattled the net for the game’s first goal.
Clarke then added to his tally as he raised a green flag, which was cancelled out by a Callum McGibbon free.
That left five-points the difference whenever the short whistle sounded as Crossmaglen led 1-3 to 0-1.
Just as they did in the first half, the Rangers scored after just two minutes after the turnaround through Chris Crowley.
McGibbon landed his second, converting a 45-metre kick, before Orin McKeown got on the scoresheet for Anthony Cunningham’s men.
Crossmaglen stretched their lead even further moments later when Rian O’Neill buried the ball to the back of the net.
Sarsfields responded with two points from Eamon McGeown that were matched by Cian McConville and Odhran Kieran.
McConville added another and traded scores with Paul McGeown while Rian O’Neill landed a 45.
Kieran claimed his second of the evening, as did Aaron Kernan as Cross chipped in with the final three scores to secure a 13-point win.
Crossmaglen’s victory sees Mullaghbawn exit the competition. Peter McDonnell’s men can only match Sarsfields tally of two-points, but the High Moss men have the head to head advantage.
