Whitecross 0-6 Pearse Og 0-9
Pearse Og made it two from two on Saturday evening when they secured the two points of offer in Whitecross.
Garreth Thornton’s side began their campaign with a three-point win over Annaghmore and backed that up in round two.
It proved to be a second loss on the trot however for Whitecross. They were nine-point loses to Tir na nOg last weekend.
That result probably wasn’t a fair reflection of their performance, but goals win games and that was the difference in the end.
The visiting side got off to a flying start and raised three white flags inside the first 15 minutes of the game.
Ruairi Duffy got the ball rolling with a pointed free which was followed by scores from Anto Duffy and Niall Boyle.
Whitecross, who were without star man Mark Shields, got up and running just before the half time interval.
Cormac Vallely split the posts for the home side and that proved the final action of the opening period. The Ogs held a two-point lead at half time, 0-3 to 0-1.
Second half
Joe Starkey got the home side up and running for the second half with a score inside the first sixty seconds.
But it was cancelled out by a second from Ruairi Duffy, who retained the two-point difference between the sides.
Paul Duffy, making his first championship appearance of 2023, widened the gap for Pearse Og with his first of the afternoon.
Two in a row Aidan Finnegan helped keep Whitecross in touch as that got the margin back down to one.
Pearse Og responded with two of their own, with Boyle and Paul Duffy both splitting the posts.
Ruairi Duffy widened the margin with another converted free, which was matched by Aodhan Lynch.
Anto Duffy tapped over another for the Ogs while Whitecross claimed the final score of the night, but it wasn’t enough to earn something from the game.
