Clann Eireann IIs 0-12 Killeavy IIs 0-12
Clann Eireann IIs secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Junior Championship with a one-point win over Killeavy IIs.
A free in the final minute from Ethan McKenna nudged Clann Eireann ahead at just the right time.
They had trailed by four points just after the turnaround but dominated the majority of the second period.
Some wayward shooting from the Lurgan men meant they stayed behind but found the target when it mattered.
The sides traded scores early in the game with James French and Jack Collins both hitting a brace at either end.
John Stevenson then nudged Killeavy ahead for the first time, followed by a huge effort from Myles Boyd.
Last week’s Player of the Week Caolan Laverty extended Killeavy’s advantage, before French claimed a third.
Boyd beautifully stroked over a 45 before Aaron Coogan pulled off a terrific save to deny McKenna a goal.
Two quick points followed from Clann Eireann, while Stevenson and Sean Corry both exchanged efforts.
That left two points the difference when the half time whistle sounded, with Killeavy ahead 0-8 to 0-6.
Killeavy started the second half brightly, stretching their lead to four with points from Stevenson and Collins.
But Clann Eireann began to control proceedings and started to dominate around the middle of the field.
McKenna (2) and French both raised white flags as Clann Eireann closed the gap to just a single point.
They were reduced to 14 men for a ten-minute spell however as Johnny Torode received a black card.
That didn’t falter their ambition as they went in search of a leveller, although they still missed plenty of chances.
Coogan pulled off two more point-blanks saves and eventually, Franch fired over the equalising score.
Collins (free) and Michael McCaughley (mark) both split the posts before McKenna landed the final point of the game.
