Clonmore claim final four place

Clonmore made their way through to the semi-finals of the Junior Championship with a convincing win over An Port Mor.

Brendan Donaghy’s side, who won Division 3A, led from start to finish and controlled the contest throughout.

The game was just eleven seconds old when Clonmore got things up and running with a superb goal.

Caolan Donaghy won the throw up and fed centre half forward Sean Quigley, who buried the ball to the net.

James Grimley followed it up with a pointed free before Quigley earned his first point to put Clonmore five up.

The onslaught continued as captain Caolan Donaghy fisted over a point while Cathal McCann claimed his first.

Ryan Gorman then opened An Port Mor’s account with a score from the dead ball after 22 minutes of play.

Cahal Cunningham tapped over two frees before McCann brought the scoring for the first half to a close. That saw Clonmore head into the break carrying a 1-7 to 0-1 lead.

Cunningham extended the margin to ten three minutes after the turnaround before An Poer Mor hit a brace.

Gorman slotted two frees on the trot before Cunningham set up Quigley for his second point of the game.

Clonmore then stretched their lead even further as Jodi Nixon broke through the Blackwater defence and shot home a major.

Cunningham tapped over a free before An Port Mor netted. Mark Donnelly played a brilliant through ball to Kieran, who dropped possession, but Charlie Traynor poked the ball home.

Quigley and Stefan Green split the posts Nixon was dragged down inside the square and Clonmore were rewarded a penalty.

Quigley stepped up to slam the ball into the net before adding another point to stretch the gap to 15.

Cunningham claimed the final point of the day as Clonmore booked their place in the final four.
