Granemore edge out Clan na Gael

Granemore 2-13 Clan na Gael 3-8

Granemore gained the upper hand over Clan na Gael on Sunday afternoon to claim the Intermediate Championship title.

Two-point separation the sides as the full-time whistle sounded, and it did make for a nervy final few minutes.

Clans rattled the net from the penalty spot and also fired over a late point but couldn’t do enough to draw the game.

Granemore had been the better side through, led the inspirational Ciara Carr, who picked up the Player of the Match award.

The sides were fairly evenly matched early on as Aimee Brady and Ella Reid traded scores with Carr.

A brace a points from Corinna Doyle and Rachael Merry saw Granemore get their noses in front for the first time.

Clans bounced back Niamh Henderson rattled the net, but Carr fired over her third of the day to tie things up.

Carr and captain Edel Hagney drove Granemore into a three-point lead before Doyle doubled their advantage with a goal.

Doyle followed it up with another point, which was matched by Reid. That gave Sean O’Connor’s ladies a 1-9 to 1-3 half time lead.

Reid narrowed the gap at the start of the second half before Henderson grabbed her second goal of the day.

Carr settled things for Granemore with a brace as Hagney and Angela Loughran exchanged pointed efforts.

Lara Marsden swung over two scores, split by another from Hagney, before Carr nailed Granemore’s second goal.

That left six-points between the sides heading into the final five minutes of play. While the gap was too big to close, Clan na Gael gave it a brilliant go.

First of all, Brady tucked away a penalty before Henderson split the posts, but it wasn’t enough to catch Granemore.
