Culloville claim u21 Intermediate title

Culloville 2-5 Mullaghbawn 0-3

Culloville claimed the u21 Intermediate Championship title with an eight-point victory over Mullaghbawn.

The sides played out an enjoyable affair in atrocious conditions and ultimately goals were the difference in the end.

The hosts, Mullaghbawn, played with the huge breeze in the first half but some wayward shooting let them down.

Still, they led at the break, although they just had their noses ahead by the minimum of margins.

Mullaghbawn opened the scoring three minutes into the encounter as Pearse Quinn tapped over a free.

Both sides struggled to keep possession of the ball and Mullaghbawn waited 15 minutes for a second score.

Pearse Magill fired over from long range, but the hosts were reduced to 14 men with one of their players seeing red.

Culloville, playing up the hill into the stiff wind, finally got off the mark just before the half time whistle sounded.

Captain Dara Quinn slotted over from the dead ball to leave one-point the difference at the interval. Mullaghbawn 0-2 Culloville 0-1.

With the breeze at their backs and a man up, the Blues took full advantage, hitting 1-2 on the bounce.

Ciaran Connolly tied things up before Charlie Garvey, assisted by Quinn, riffled the ball into the back of the net.

Taidgh O’Neill knocked over another score and it was matched by Quinn, who chipped in with Mullaghbawn’s only score of the second period.

Ryan Duffy and Connolly split the posts for two more Culloville points as Mullaghbawn chased a goal.

But it was Culloville who raised a green flag. Quinn’s dead ball effort from 45 yards caught everyone off guard and nestled into the net.
