Orchard masters duo selected for Ireland

Dara Edwards and Mark Murray of the Armagh Masters will line out for Ireland at over 40s and over 50s level.

The Ireland Masters will take on an AFL select next March and play out a two-game series with the Australians.

Mullagh GAA club in Galway will host the first test on Saturday 9 March. The second test will take place in Denn GFC, Cavan on Saturday 16 March.

Eire Og clubman Edwards will represent the Orchard County in the over 40s squad. Murray, from the Derrynoose club, will line out for the Ireland over 50s.

All-Ireland defeat

Edwards chipped in with a point as Armagh lost out to Limerick in the Spirit Cup All-Ireland final after extra time.

Paul Cullen’s side held a four-point lead heading into the final quarter of normal time. But, they couldn’t see the game out.

Limerick rallied and tied things up to force extra time. They pushed on from there to win in the end with four to spare.

Murray was one of Armagh’s star performers that day, but the Orchard County just couldn’t get over the line.

2023 marked the first season of the Armagh Masters team and they put in a good shift this year.

The squad will hope to strengthen for next season and push on once the 2024 campaign rolls around.

Former Derry defender Kevin McGuckin is the most notable team on the Ireland over 40s panel and he’ll play alongside Edwards.

Limerick native Anthony McCarthy will manage the over 40s team. Jimmy Galligan of Cavan and Derry’s Ronan Rocks will make up the management team.

The over 50s management team has yet to be confirmed. There will also be a Masters Ladies team announced this week as well.
