Armagh lose league encounter with Laois

Armagh 0-12 Laois 3-12

Armagh suffered their first defeat of the 2024 season as Laois earned a nine-point victory at Granemore on Saturday.

The game was originally fixed for a Laois venue, but due to the weather conditions, the venue was switched to Armagh.

Home advantage did the Orchard County no favours however as Laois led for the majority of the contest.

Three goals were key for the O’Moore County, who rattled the net once in the first half and twice in the second.

The first Laois goal came after just nine minutes and that was the difference between the teams at half time.

Armagh, who defeated Roscommon in round one, opened the scoring through Rose Boden after seven minutes.

Laois nailed 1-1 in quick succession before Rachael Merry, who received a Gaelic Life All-Star on Friday, responded for Armagh.

Leanne Donnelly, Armagh’s joint captain, along with Merry helped narrow the gap with pointed frees.

The visitors struck two points on the trot, but they were soon cancelled out by Merry and Sinead Quinn.

Laois finished the half stronger with a few points to lead by three-points at the half time interval, 1-6 to 0-6.
