McCambridge picks up Player of the Year gong

Clodagh McCambridge picked up the Ladies Player of the Year award at Friday night’s Gaelic Life All-Star event.

McCambridge was outstanding for Clann Eireann in the 2023 season, which was one to remember for the Lurgan club.

Not only did Clann Eireann retain their county title, but the claimed the clubs first ever Ulster crown as well.

Clann Eireann overcame Carrickcruppen in the Armagh final, winning by 14-points in the end, 1-15 to 0-4.

From there, Clann Eireann toppled everyone in the province to create history and land an Ulster title.

In their three Ulster Championship games, McCambridge was rock solid at the back as they kept three clean sheets.

They beat Drumlane, Moneyglass and Bredagh, conceding just 0-21 across all three of their encounters.

McCambridge particularly stared in the semi-final as she shut down Antrim sharpshooter Orlaith Prenter.

Clann Eireann’s season was ended by Ballymacarby of Waterford, who defeated them in the All-Ireland semi-final.

Team of the Year

McCambridge also earned a Gaelic Life All-Star award at full back, one of five Clann Eireann girls to do so.

Joining her in the defence on the Team of the Year were clubmates Roisin Mulligan and Cait Towe in the half back line.

Niamh Coleman was selected at midfield while Clann Eireann captain Niamh Henderson was in the half forward line.

Not only that, but their manager Gregory McGonigle was named as the Ladies Football Manager of the Year.

McGonigle has since taking the reigns of the Armagh Ladies and they’ve started the season perfectly.

They’ve won all four of their opening league games, with Kerry visiting the Orchard County this weekend.

McCambridge, the current Armagh Ladies captain, has carried her fine form into the orange and white of Armagh.

Armagh haven’t conceded a goal in their last two outings against Galway and Meath, with McCambridge’s role key at full back.
