Cavan leave Armagh hurlers feeling blue

The Armagh Hurlers suffered a demoralising defeat to Cavan with three points the difference at Kingspan Breffni Park.

The Orchard men led for a large portion of the game, but Cavan stole ahead at the right time and stayed there.

Two second half goals from the home side helped their cause as Armagh tasted defeat for the third time in four games.

An Alex O’Boyle double (one free), split by a home point from Nicholas Kenny, got the game up and running.

O’Boyle slung over another score while Fionntan Donnelly grew Armagh’s advantage to three-points.

O’Boyle traded frees with Liam O’Brien while two more pointed frees from O’Boyle made it a five-point game.

Armagh’s attacking ace fired over another long range free while Canice Maher pulled one back for Cavan.

O’Boyle and Sean Og McGuinness slotted over one point each to see Armagh ahead by seven at the break, 0-10 to 0-3.

The scoring power of O’Boyle continued in the second period, as he traded scores with the opposition.

Aaron Fox also got in the scoring act for Karl McKeegan’s side before Cavan hit 1-4 on the bounce to leave one the difference.

Armagh broke the home sides scoring spree with a great score from defender Kieran McKernan.

But Cavan shot into the lead for the very first time with their second three-pointer, putting them 2-9 to 0-14 in front.

Cavan stretched their lead to four heading into the final few minutes, before Shea Harvey pulled one back for Armagh.

O’Boyle and Thomas Leonard exchanged pointed efforts, but Cavan done enough to hold on by three-points.

The loss sees Armagh anchored at the bottom of the table, with one game remaining to secure their Division 3A status.
