Orchard minors overpower Monaghan

Monaghan 0-8 Armagh 0-13

The Armagh Minors picked up their first win of the 2024 season as they overcame Monaghan by five-points at Inniskeen.

The sides were tied at four points apiece, but Armagh pushed on after the turnaround with a fine second half display.

Aaron Garvey opened Armagh’s account inside the opening sixty seconds of the game, but his effort was immediately cancelled out.

Captain Shea Loughran, who missed last week’s clash with Down through injury, then nudged Aidan O’Rourke’s side ahead.

Diarmaid O’Rourke made two the difference, but his first point of the day was matched at the other end by the hosts.

Two on the trot from the home team saw them edge ahead by the minimum of margins with the first half coming to a close.

Armagh did tie things up before the break however, with Conal Wilson landing the final point of the half to leave it 0-4 each.

Two pointed frees at the start of the second half from Eoin Duffy pushed the Orchard County into the lead.

Monaghan got themselves up and running for the second half while Garvey responded for the visiting side.

Another three from Culloville man Duffy, one from play, extended the Armagh lead before Monaghan responded with a point.

O’Rourke added his second of the day while substitute Caomh Agnew chipped in with a point of his own.

Loughran knocked over another point, which split two from the hosts, as Armagh ran out five-point winners.
