Armagh beat Breffni to earn promotion

Armagh 2-21 Cavan 0-12

Armagh completed their immediate return to Division One football with a superb performance and triumph over Cavan.

Two first half goals sent the Orchard on their way and in truth, they were much the better team throughout.

Cavan got off the mark early through Ryan O’Neill, but Armagh took control and never looked back.

Ben Crealey, Rory Grugan (free) and Andrew Murnin all raised white flags inside the opening ten minutes.

Tiarnan Madden traded scores with Greg McCabe, while Grugan and Paddy Lynch did likewise.

McCabe and Grugan added further scores before a Conro Turbitt brace and Murnin’s second made it 10-3.

Peter McGrane grabbed the games first goal after being played through by Connaire Mackin. He still had a bit to do but held his cool to slide the ball into the net.

Lynch and Grugan exchanged frees before Stefan Campbell opened his account with a superb score.

A second goal followed when Armagh pounced on a loose kickout. Cillian Brady dragged down Turbitt and received a well-deserved black card.

Turbitt stood up to hit the penalty when he got back to his feet and swiped the ball into the corner to give Armagh a 2-12 to 0-4 half time advantage.

Any hope of a Cavan revival were surrendered when Cian Reilly received a black card at the start of the second period. Turbitt popped over the resulting free to grow his tally.

Grugan kicked his fifth of the evening, which was cancelled out by McVeety, while Conaty hit his fourth.
