Armagh secure league final spot

Armagh booked their place in the Division One league final with an away victory over Mayo by the minimum of margins.

Greg McGonigle’s side continued their outstanding form at the top of the table with a six successive victory.

With one game remaining, the Orchard County face Dublin next in the last round while their final opponents are still unknown.

Armagh were well ahead in this game but a second half surge from the hosts left a nervy finish.

Kelly Mallon got the action underway with a converted free, which was cancelled out by the Mayo attack.

Aimee Mackin likewise split the posts from the dead ball before she rattled the net with the games first goal.

Mallon doubled her personal haul with another free before Aoife McCoy added a second goal for her side.

Mayo pulled one back with their second of the afternoon and it was matched immediately by a Mackin free.

Niamh Coleman slotted over her first and that gave the Orchard ladies a nine-point lead at half time, 2-5 to 0-2.

Mayo closed the gap with a blistering start to the second period. They hit the first three points after the turnaround.

McCoy got Armagh up and running before Mayo hit a goal of their own to reduce the margin to four.

Mackin continued to grew her own individual tally but Mayo responded to keep themselves in touch.

The Westerners rattled the back of the Armagh net for the second time before raising a white flag to level the tie.

Mackin nudged Armagh ahead once again but the home side responded with an equaliser.

Another Mackin free gave Armagh the edge when the referee called for the ball, with one the difference in the end.
