Camogs claim league crown

Armagh 0-14 Laois 2-7

Armagh won the Division Three league title with one-point to spare over Laois at Abbostown on Saturday afternoon.

Having suffered heartbreaking league final defeats to in 2021 and 2023, the Orchard Ladies finally got their hands on the silverware.

Those beatings were tough to take, considering they were by two-points and one-point respectively.

But it was Armagh who came out the right side of a tight tussle this time around to earn promotion.

Laois rattled off three goals when the sides met previously in the league and again raised two green flags in the final.

Like the first day, they kept a clean sheet but this time around it wasn’t enough to see off Sean Hughes’ side.

Despite conceding goal from a penalty inside the first five minutes, Armagh dominated most of the first half.

Rachael Merry got the show on the road inside 60 seconds, before Laois raced ahead with their first major.

Scores from Sinead Quinn and Merry tied things up before Tiarna Maxwell nudged Armagh ahead.

Ciara Geoghegan and Merry (free) fired over scores just before half time. A Laois brace before the short whistle left the score 0-6 to 1-2 at the interval.

Second half

Laois tied the game up at the start of the second half before Geoghegan edged Armagh in front once again.

Two more scores from the O’Moore County pushed them into the lead heading into the final quarter.

A Merry brace handed the initiative back in Armagh’s favour while two from Geoghegan put them three ahead.

Leanne Donnelly got in on the scoring act before Laois pulled two back to make it a two-point game.

Laois then rattled the net for the second time to drive one ahead inside added time. But Armagh didn’t panic, and they finished the stronger.

Quinn levelled the game while the opportunity to win the game fell to Merry and the Granemore star swung over a last minute free.

Armagh Scorers: Rachael Merry 0-6 (3f), Ciara Geoghegan 0-4, Sinead Quinn 0-2, Tiarna Maxwell 0-1, Leanne Donnelly 0-1.
