Seven heaven for Armagh ladies

Armagh have had seven players selected on the Division One Team of the Lidl National Football League for 2024.

The Orchard County claimed the Division One title for the first time ever, beating Kerry in the decider.

Armagh suffered just one loss through the entire campaign. That came in round seven against Dublin when their league final position was already secured.

But before that, Gregory McGonigle’s ladies strung together a winning streak of six games in a row.

Armagh proved too strong for Kerry in the showpiece, with just three-points the difference between the teams in the end.

Team of the league

Grace Ferguson and Clodagh McCambridge have both been named in the full back line on the Team of the League.

The two defenders have been go-to markers for Armagh and usually pick up the oppositions best players.

It’s been quite a couple of months for McCambridge, who is also the Armagh captain. McCambridge was named as the Gaelic Life Ladies Player of the Year back in March.

McCambridge was outstanding for Clann Eireann in 2023 as they claimed the Ulster title for the first time in their history.

Lauren McConville, Armagh’s Player of the Match in the league final, has also been named at centre half back.

The Crossmaglen woman has been terrific all season and reached a landmark of 100 appearances for Armagh this year.

Caroline O’Hanlon is named at midfield and she’s now in her 23rd season in the orange and white jersey.

O’Hanlon played in six of Armagh’s eight league games at midfield and scored 1-4 across those outings.

In attack, Aoife McCoy holds the centre half forward position while Kelly Mallon and Aimee Mackin are in the inside line.

Mackin crowned her season off with 1-4 in the final, bringing her haul for the year to an outstanding 7-25.
