Division 1A & 1B Previews – Gameday 4

Division 1A

Madden are out twice this weekend in the Division 1A league as they take on Silverbridge on Friday evening and Clann Eireann on Sunday. The are without their star attacker Conor Grimley who will be sidelined for the rest of the year.

The scoring burden will fall on the shoulders of Aron McKenna and Joe Sheridan as Mark Harte’s side search for their first win. They come up against table toppers Silverbridge, who have won three from three.

Last year’s Division 1B league champions have started their season with a bang having saw off Killeavy, Dromintee and Crossmaglen. These two sides met in the opening round of the SFC last year, with Madden winning by five.

Crossmaglen will be keen to continue their fine form when they travel to Dromintee. Callum Cumiskey has been playing good stuff for the Rangers while James Morgan featured against Granemore last week.

Dromintee, who earned promotion from Division 1B alongside Silverbridge last year, are on two-points. Their only victory so far in the league came in round two when they saw off Killeavy by four.

Killeavy earned their first win of the campaign against Madden last week, thanks to a hattrick of goals from Miceal McNamee. Ciaron O’Hanlon also featured heavily, finishing the game with 0-4.

They meet Armagh Harps who are bolstered by the return of their Armagh u20s, but Ryan ‘Minnie’ McShane remains injured. They lost to Clann Eireann last weekend so will be keen to get back to winning ways.

Ruairi Lavery’s Lurgan men have won two from two and are currently unbeaten in the league. They’ve defeated Dromintee and the Harps, with Jack Conlon, Conor McConville and Daniel Magee grabbing the goals last weekend.

Division 1B

Sarsfields and Cullyhanna get the Division 1B action underway for the weekend on Thursday evening. The High Moss men are currently at the bottom of the table having lost both their opening games.

Cullyhanna on the other hand have only suffered one defeat, coming in their most recent outing last weekend. League leaders Mullaghbawn saw off Stephen Reel’s side by three-points.

Mullaghbawn, who have won all three of their games, take on Maghery on Friday evening. Maghery earned their first point of the campaign last week as they drew with Ballymacnab, thanks to a late Kevin Robinson free.

Clan na Gael earned a two-point win over St Peter’s last week and they’ll hope to back it up against Culloville this weekend. James Austin claimed the all-important goal while Brendan O’Hagan and Callum O’Neill had big influences.

Culloville are currently third in the league table having battled past Sarsfields by six last weekend. Goals from Paul Kingham, Gavin McVerry and Shane Carragher saw them win 3-11 to 1-11.

There are two Division 1B league games next Tuesday evening as well. Maghery take on St Peter’s at home while Sarsfields host Clan na Gael.
