Armagh suffer heart-breaking defeat to Roscommon

Armagh 0-20 Roscommon 0-21

Armagh suffered a heart-breaking one-point defeat to Roscommon at the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds on Sunday afternoon.

Having led for the majority of the final quarter, Roscommon just got their noses ahead at the end of the game.

Alex O’Boyle got the game up and running but Roscommon replied with three scores from play on the bounce.

Likewise, after a second point from O’Boyle (65), Roscommon claimed another trio of scores to leave it 6-2 after ten minutes.

A good score from Joe O’Connor split four on the trot from O’Boyle as Armagh tied the game for the first time.

O’Boyle claimed another brace of points which were matched at the other end before Roscommon nudged ahead.

Another O’Boyle scored was followed by four from the visiting side as Roscommon held a 0-14 to 0-10 lead at the break.

Fionntan Donnelly narrowed that gap at the start of the second half, pointing inside the opening sixty seconds.

Two in a row from first half substitute Tomas Galvin, on his first appearance of the year, made it a one-point game.

Roscommon grabbed their first since the turnaround, but it was matched at the far side by an O’Boyle free.

O’Boyle swung over another, his 11th of the day, before popping up with a 12th to give his side the lead.
