Division 1A & 1B Match Reports – Week Five

Division 1A – Crossmaglen 2-9 Clann Eireann 1-14

Clann Eireann climbed to the top of the Division 1A league table on Friday night with a two-point win over Crossmaglen.

The sides were evenly matched in the opening exchanges, with Ruairi McDonald and Ronan Fitzpatrick trading scores.

Jack Conlon then rattled the net on the ten-minute mark, after Aodhan McConville’s initial effort was blocked down.

McDonald and Dara O’Callaghan cancelled each other out while Conlon claimed a brace of points to extend Clann Eireann’s advantage to five.

McDonald grabbed his third of the game, but it was once again matched at the other end when Callum Cumiskey split the posts.

Conor McConville tagged on another for the visitors while two from O’Callaghan left Cross trailing 1-6 to 0-5 at the half time interval.

Daniel Magee, Ethan McKenna, McDonald Aodhan McConville extended Clann Eireann’s lead after the turnaround.

O’Callaghan and Pearse Blessing pointed before an Odhran Kieran goal brought them back into the game.

Conlon and McConville split the posts while O’Callaghan and Kieran pulled two back for the Rangers.

Aodhan McConville pointed before Paul Hughes fired home a great goal to narrow the gap to just one.

Clann Eireann tagged on the final score of the game through McConville to secure a two-point away win.

Dromintee 2-8 Madden 1-12

Madden earned their first victory of the Division 1A league campaign on Friday evening away to Dromintee.

The visitors went 3-1 up with scores from Aron McKenna, Paddy Carr and Joe Sheridan before Dromintee levelled matters.

Dromintee added scores in between points from Donal Rafferty, Oisin O’Hara (2), Shea Vallely and Sheridan. That left Mark Harte’s men 8-5 ahead at the break.

McKenna and Cathal Maguire exchanged points with the opposition before Carr rattling the back of the net.

Sheridan and Carr added points before Dromintee drove home two goals through Cathal McKenna and Niall Courtney, but it wasn’t enough to get something from the game.

Elsewhere, an early goal from Miceal McNamee saw Killeavy overcome Granemore by one-point. 1-8 to 0-10.

Division 1B – Ballymacnab 1-14 Mullaghbawn 0-12

Ballymacnab picked up their first win of the season on Thursday and in doing so, handed Mullaghbawn their first defeat.

A Jack Grugan goal midway through the second half helped the home sides cause and the led from start to finish.

Shea O’Toole and Cormac McKee got the Nab up and running before Mullaghbawn responded through Pierce Quinn.

Ballymacnab hit the next five points through Kieran Hughes (3) and Ryan Watters (2) to go six ahead.

Ciaran Connolly and Quinn exchanged dead ball efforts while Fionn Downey and Pearse Hughes swapped scores.

Mullaghbawn keeper Patrick McAteer and Tiarnan Murphy brought the score to an end for the first half. The Nab led at the break, 0-9 to 0-5.

Oisin McGivern pointed right from the throw in before Finnen Maguire extended Ballymacnab’s advantage.

Conor Tierney split the posts for Mullaghbawn before Grugan hit an empty net after McAteer had been overturned at midfield.

Niall Loye claimed a brace while Kieran Hughes split two Eddie English points, both from frees.

Maguire and Tierney exchanged scores as did Hughes and English, with the Nab seeing out a five-point win.

Maghery 1-15 Sarsfields 1-14

A late Kevin Robinson point saw Maghery survive a second half surge from Sarsfields to win by the minimum.

Maghery had led by six at the halfway stage, but Sarsfields got back on level terms late in the game.

Maghery made the brighter start to lead 4-1. Thomas McAlinden split points from Oisin Cushnahan, Robinson (2) and Eamon Cusack.

Robinson swapped frees with Eamon McGeown while Padraig O’Keefe and Robinson grew Maghery’s advantage.

Two Brendan Haveron points followed by a Michael Stevenson score brough the half to an end. Maghery ahead at the interval, 0-9 to 0-3.

Robinson (2) got Maghery up and running after the turnaround while McGeown responded with a free.

Maghery extended their lead with a goal from Michael Branagh before Sarsfields came flying back into the game.

McGeown, McAlinden and Luka Donnelly scored for the visitors while Maghery shot back through O’Keefe and Tomas Toye.

Sarsfields outscored their hosts 1-7 to 0-1 in the final ten minutes to tie things up, with McGeown grabbing their goal.

But Maghery did enough to secure maximum points with Robinson firing over the winning score.

First half goals from Niall Creaney (penalty), Niall McConville and Ryan Kelly saw St Peter’s beat Culloville 3-12 to 0-11. Clan na Gael beat St Patrick’s 1-10 to 0-7.
