Division 2A & 2B Previews – Gameday 6

Division 2A

St Paul’s and Keady leading the chasing pack at the top of the Division 2A league table, and they face off this weekend. The pair are tied on six-points each, just two behind the league leaders Carrickcruppen.

The two teams also faced off in the semi-finals of the Intermediate Championship last year and played out a fascinating encounter. An Andrew Murnin hattrick helped St Paul’s through to the final in the end.

The two managers will know each other quite well too. Ronan Clarke, who was involved with Keady in 2022, and Simon McGeary worked together a few years ago with the Armagh Minors as part of Ciaran McKeever’s management team.

Carrickcruppen will be keen to extend their lead at the top of the table when they travel to Pearse Og. Barry Flynn’s men have won all four of their league outings to sit in first position on eight points.

The Ogs are currently on four points and head into the weekend off the back of a nine-point defeat to Keady. Only three points separated the sides at the break, but it was three second half goals from Keady that done the damage.

Annaghmore and Shane O’Neill’s both join the Ogs on four points, and they lock horns on Friday evening. The Shane’s beat St Paul’s in their last outing by two points while Annaghmore lost out to Tullysaran.

Division 2B

This week’s Division 2B action gets underway on Thursday night as Derrynoose host Wolfe Tones. The Tones beat Whitecross at home last week to continue their fine form at the start of the campaign.

Peter Nugent’s side have only lost once this year, to league leaders Belleek, and lead Derrynoose in the table by two points. Paul Hagan’s men are in decent form themselves, having won their last two games.

Goals from Sean Lennon and Shea McNaughton saw Derrynoose past Clonmore last week while they beat Clann Eireann IIs the week before. That game was their only so far on home turf, so they’ll look forward to home advantage on Friday.

Clann Eireann IIs bounced back brilliantly from that defeat as they beat Cross IIs last weekend. They rattled off six goals with Michael McCaughey grabbing a hattrick. Rogan McVeigh (2) and Cohen Henderson also raised green flags.

Belleek have been in good goal scoring form as well and have hit the net in four of their last five outings. They hit two the last night, from James McParland and Drew McVerry, as they beat Tir na nOg.

The Portadown men are away from home on Friday night as they travel to Whitecross. Both teams suffered defeats last weekend so the two clubs will be eager to bounce back this weekend.
