Division 1A & 1B Previews – Gameday 7

Division 1A

There’s a top of the table clash in Division 1A this weekend as Silverbridge host Clann Eireann on Friday. Both teams have yet to taste defeat and are the only two senior teams with unbeaten records.

The two clubs picked up league titles last season with Clann Eireann claiming the Division 1A crown while Silverbridge earned the Division 1B title. Both sides have carried that form into 2024.

Clann Eireann, who have SFC winning captain Shea Heffron back in their ranks, drew with Killeavy last weekend. Silverbridge have also earned a share of the spoils in their last two outings against Madden and Granemore.

Killeavy have picked up five points from their six outings and they take on Crossmaglen on Friday evening. Miceal McNamee has been in fine goalscoring form and hit the net against the league leaders last week.

Crossmaglen have lost two of their six fixtures, and they are currently tied on eight points along with Silverbridge and one behind Clann Eireann. They earned a one-point victory over Madden, away from home, last week.

Madden have won once in their last four outings and sit just above the relegation zone on four points. They take on Armagh Harps on Saturday night, who are two-points ahead of this weekend’s opponents.

Not only are two Tyrone men going head-to-head, but two Errigal Ciaran clubmen will lock horns on Saturday. Pascal Canavan is now in his third season in charge of the Harps while Mark Harte leads the Madden camp.

Division 1B

Sarsfields have picked up one-point from their last three outings and currently sit at the bottom of the Division 1B league table. They’ll hope to bounce back from back-to-back defeats when they travel to Mullaghbawn on Friday.

Brendan Hughes’ men will have to do so without Michael Stevenson. The former Armagh footballer picked up a nasty shoulder injury in their first half of their defeat to Ballymacnab last week. His replacement Kevin McAlinden also made way with a hamstring injury.

Mullaghbawn lost to Ballymacnab in their last outing, their only defeat of the campaign so far. Eddie English is back for Declan Campbell’s side and could come in from the start this weekend.

The Nab have hit a fine run of form, picking up five-points from their last three outings. Ronan Murphy’s men take on Clan na Gael this weekend, who end into the game off the back of a three-point defeat to Maghery last week.

Clans manager Ronan McMahon will have a fair idea of what his side face this weekend as he was involved with the Nab back in 2021. Working under manager Mick O’Dowd, McMahon helped them reach the SFC semi-finals that year.

Also on Friday night, St Peter’s take on St Patrick’s and just two points separate the sides in the league table. Cullyhanna beat Culloville by three-points last week while St Peter’s beat the same side in their last outing.
