Orchard ease past old foes Tyrone

Armagh continued their recent winning run as they saw off old rivals Tyrone by 16-points at Ballymacnab on Saturday.

It was the opening round of the All-Ireland series, where Armagh will also face Wicklow, Down and Tipperary.

Armagh have already collected silverware in the form of a Division Three league title and an Ulster crown.

They’ll flew out of the traps against Tyrone and dominated proceedings, leading by 18-points at the halfway point.

Leanne Donnelly, Sinead Quinn, Niamh Forker (2) and Tiarna Maxwell (2) got the home side up and running.

Quinn then claimed the first major of the day, sending her side nine-points ahead after as many minutes.

Ciara Geoghegan swapped scores with Tyrone’s Roisin O’Neill McKee while Forker did likewise with Lára Devlin.

Orla O’Kane, Katie Convie, Forker and Geoghegan grew the Orchard’s advantage before Roisin McErlearn claimed Tyrone’s third.

Michelle McGuigan and Geoghegan continued to raise white flags before Quinn added 1-1 before the break. That saw Armagh take a commanding 2-15 to 0-3 half time lead.

McErlearn’s early score was cancelled out by Maxwell while Geoghegan added to her personal tally.

Tyrone nabbed their own three-point through Lauren Fitzgerald while another Geoghegan score was matched by Devlin.

Quinn claimed a third goal of the day as Tyrone pulled three back in a matter of minutes through Devlin (2) and Una McCann.

Forker and Devlin traded points while Tyrone finished the stronger of the two sides with three on the bounce from McErlearn.

It wasn’t enough to get something from the game of course and the damage had already been done. Armagh now face Down in round two of the All-Ireland series.
