Division 1A & 1B Previews – Gameday 9

Division 1A

All the Division 1A games take place on Friday this week and there are some huge points up for grabs at both ends of the table. Madden currently sit just above the relegation zone, and they head to Lurgan this weekend.

Mark Harte’s men take on the reigning league champions Clann Eireann, who have yet to lose this year. Both sides head into the game having won last week, with Madden beating Granemore and Clann Eireann seeing off Dromintee.

Granemore will be keen to pick up their first victory of the campaign when they make the trip to Abbey Park. Harps, who lost to Crossmaglen last week, won the reverse fixture by the minimum of margins.

Pascal Canavan’s side are still without Ryan ‘Minnie’ McShane, who is a huge loss to them. Youngsters James Walsh and Tadgh Grimley have been performing well, as has Tom O’Kane at wing back.

The Rangers are currently second in the table, although level on 12-points with Clann Eireann. They host Silverbridge on Friday evening, who tasted defeat for the first time this season against Killeavy last week.

Niall McAleenan’s men will look to back that up this week when they meet Dromintee on home turf. Dromintee are in desperate need of points as they sit joint-bottom of the table with Granemore on two-points.

Division 1B

The Division 1B action gets underway on Wednesday evening as St Patrick’s host Ballymacnab, and both head into the game off the back of recent defeats. Cullyhanna lost to Maghery last week, while Culloville saw off Ballymacnab.

Both sides are without key men and only one points splits the two clubs in the league table. A Shea Hoey goal proved the difference between the teams when they met earlier in the league, as Cullyhanna won by three.

Maghery have been on an incredible run of form since losing their first game to Cullyhanna. They’ve gone on an unbeaten run of six games, including four victories, to sit in second place in the table.

They meet St Peter’s on Thursday night, who are currently anchored at the bottom of the Division 2B table. They lost to Sarsfields last weekend despite leading by two-points at the break.

Sarsfields’ knack for goal shone through and they’ll hope to continue that goalscoring form when they make the short journey to Clan na Gael. Clans lost to Mullaghbawn last weekend but are still battling for promotion.

Also on Friday night, league leaders Mullaghbawn, who have only lost once this year, take on Culloville. The Blues will be without Ryan Garvey and Dara Quinn, but have enough quality to cause Mullaghbawn issues.
