Home comforts can help Armagh Camogs

Armagh are back on home turf this weekend as they welcome Wicklow to the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds for round three of the championship.

The Orchard County have racked up two impressive victories over Ulster rivals Tyrone and Down in the opening two rounds.

Across those two outings, Sean Hughes’ girls rattled off 14 goals to win both comfortably and collect two wins.

Sinead Quinn rattled off a hattrick of goals on the opening day as Armagh saw off the Red Hands by 16-points.

Tiarna Maxwell also raised a green flag in that game as the home side ran out 4-20 to 1-13 winners.

The last day out, Armagh were on the road but that mattered little as they hammered their hosts, Down.

A first half hattrick from Jennifer Curry, along with 1-6 from Ciara Geoghegan, helped them on their way.

They continued their scoring spree after the turnaround and ran out huge 10-24 to 0-3 victors in the end.

Those two victories leave Armagh second in the table, just behind Tipperary, although Armagh do have a game in hand over the league leaders.

And that game is this weekend, away from home, with Tipperary enjoying a week off this weekend.

Their encounter with the Premier County next week already looks like a huge game, but Armagh won’t be concerned about that just yet.

They’ll want to leap to the top of the table with a third consecutive win and continue their fine form.

Like Armagh, Wicklow have only played two games so far in the campaign, with mixed results.

They hammered Down in the opening round, by nine-points, before losing heavily to table toppers Tipperary.

Armagh will be confident of landing a third successive victory and continuing on their way to the knockout stages.
