Armagh Camogs claim semi-final spot

Armagh 1-20 Roscommon 1-10

Armagh made it through to the last four of the All-Ireland series with an impressive win over Roscommon on Saturday. It was nip and tuck early on, but Armagh were the better team and advanced with ten-points to spare.

The sides were score for score during the opening quarter before the Rossies’ claimed the first goal of the day. But Armagh’s reply was emphatic, and they pushed on to build up a four-point half time advantage.

Leanne Donnelly and Erin McDermott swapped scores during the first couple of minutes, while Ciara Geoghegan and Sally Bolger did likewise. Sinead Quinn nudged Armagh ahead, but her effort was cancelled out by Rachael Fitzmaurice.

Jennifer Curry pushed the Orchard County in front once again, before Roscommon hit the game’s first goal. Hazel Kelly rattled the net on the 20th minute to give the Connacht ladies a three-point lead.

A Rachael Merry brace tied things up while Geoghegan, Niamh Forker and Merry all raised white flags. Kelly pulled one back for Roscommon but points from Katie Convie and Merry saw Armagh ahead 0-11 to 1-4 at the break.

The Orchard County stretched that advantage after the turnaround with Forker grabbing her second point. Kelly and Forker exchanged pointed efforts before Curry slashed home an Armagh goal.
