Clan na Gael 0-10 Silverbridge 1-7
A heroic two-point free deep in injury time from Matthew McAdam earned Clan na Gael a draw against Silverbridge in the U16 Division One championship final. The ‘Bridge were hanging on in the final few minutes, but McAdam’s huge free means a replay will be required to settle the outcome.
The sides had been all square at the short whistle as well after a low-scoring opening 30 minutes. A goal from Niall Morgan at the start of the second half gave the ‘Bridge the lead and they had their noses ahead until the final seconds of the contest.
Clan na Gael clipped over the opening two scores of the game, the only scores of the first quarter. McAdam got things up and running before Cian McCord split the posts to double their advantage.
It took Silverbridge 22 minutes to find the target and get their end of the scoreboard operating. They could have rattled the net for their first score, but for a phenomenal save from Harry McCavigan.
Silverbridge did finally raise a brace of white flags with captain Ethan Lavelle slotting over a pair of frees. Jack McShane edged them ahead while Brogan O’Kane tied things up before the break, with the sides all square 0-3 apiece at half time.
The first goal of the game arrived 36 seconds into the second half when Morgan slid the ball into the net. The sides then swapped scores with Connla McCann and O’Kane (free) kicking points.
Lavelle and Ollie Campbell grabbed further points as the ‘Bridge opened up a five-point lead. Clan na Gael did close the gap through substitute Callum Boyd and Dylan McCord to make the goal the difference.
Matthew McAdam slotted over a free before Lavelle restored the three-point deficit for Silverbridge. Caiden Conway grabbed his first while McAdam’s huge score tied things up at full time.
