Carrickcruppen 1-10 Granemore 0-10

Carrickcruppen claimed their place in the Senior Championship quarter-finals with a three-point win over Granemore. A first half goal from top scorer Eoin Woods was the difference between the teams in the end.

Granemore were on top until they were reduced to 14 men with goalkeeper PJ Quinn receiving his marching orders. Quinn fouled Ben Matthews and picked up a red card which switched momentum in Carrickcruppen’s favour.

Woods provided the opening score of the game before Granemore responded with a Ryan Nugent point. Granemore then took the initiative with a Karl McQuaid two-pointer putting their noses in front.

Cruppen returned to the lead however when Woods fired home the game’s only major after eight minutes of play. Both sides failed to raise another flag for 13 minutes before Shea Loughran popped over a free.

It was all Granemore for the rest of the half as they charged in front. Eoghan O’Neill fired off a brace of frees along with a two-point strike from the dead ball to put them two ahead at half time, 0-7 to 1-2.

Brendan Boylan extended their advantage when his effort as goal was tipped over the bar by Michael Hughes. The game turned on its head then with the red card to Granemore’s number one Quinn.

Carrickcruppen then kicked seven scores on the bounce to put themselves in a winning position. Woods landed two consecutive frees while Blaine Hughes claimed 0-5 from frees, including a pair of two-pointers.

O’Neill, who had been replaced was then reintroduced to play between the sticks and he kicked a two-point free. Loughran nailed the final score and while Granemore had chances, they couldn’t get back on level terms.
