Killeavy 1-22 Mullaghbawn 1-12
Killeavy qualified for the quarter-finals of the Senior Championship as they got the better of Mullaghbawn. Steven McDonnell’s men were the better team on show and made it count on the scoreboard, despite only scoring six-points after the interval.
The scoring power of youngsters Aron Magennis and Fergal Boylan, who shared 1-10 between them, drove Killeavy over the line. Joe McCann and Fergal O’Brien carried the fight for Mullaghbawn, but they couldn’t do enough.
Killeavy slotted over all ten of their first ten shots at goal to lead by six after 15 minutes of action. Gareth Murphy and Magennis split the posts before Mullaghbawn got up and running.
Fergal O’Brien latched onto a Ciaran Grant kickout and that score from Magennis and handed possession to Joe McCann. McCann took off on his own personal mission and fire the ball into the Killeavy net.
Boylan got things back on level terms while Grant (45) and Kealen McDonnell cancelled each other out. McDonnell’s second of the evening (45) kickstarted a scoring spree for Killeavy.
Caolan McConville (2), Boylan (2) and Murphy raised white flags before Boylan shot home a Killeavy goal. Ciaron O’Hanlon and Magennis added to Killeavy’s tally to stretch the margin to 11-points.
Some hope
Grant booted over a two-point free while Pearse Quinn split two more converted efforts from teenager Magennis. Boylan brought his tally to 1-4, pointing a close range free after a Mullaghbawn breech on the three-up rule.
McCann and Shea Loye contributed a point apiece just before the break to give Mullaghbawn some hope. That left Killeavy nine-points clear at the half time interval, heading into the tunnel with a 1-15 to 1-6 lead.

An O’Brien two-pointer 25 seconds into the second half was soon cancelled out by O’Hanlon and Boylan (free). McCann grew his own haul with a single and a two-pointer, either side of scores from Niall Magennis and Boylan (free).
McCann (two-pointer) and Quinn dwindled the deficit down to seven before Niall Magennis chipped over his second and third of the day while Tiarnan Browne got his name on the scoresheet as well. That stretched the margin out to ten by the time the referee called for the ball.
