Following a hard fought battle with Redmond O’Hanlon’s, it was Thomas Davis who earned a place in the JFC semi-finals. They needed a last minute score from Adam Loughran to eventually separate the sides.

Thomas Davis had reached the semi-finals of the competition two years ago. They lost out to eventual winners Clann Eireann IIs that time and are delighted to be back in the last four once again.

Captain Jordan King played a leading role in helping the men in maroon get over the line. Corner forward King was responsible for 0-3 on the day as they won 0-16 to 1-12.

“It was nip and tuck. We knew O’Hanlon’s were going to be a tough game coming into it,” he said. “They beat Ballyhegan, drew with Middletown, beat Lissummon but we backed ourselves the whole way.

“In the first half we probably didn’t play to our potential. Playing up the hill was tough but the second half was back to basics. We probably weren’t where we needed to be at times but we got over the line and that’s the main thing.”

The chance to win the game fell to Loughran. He split the posts with a free and King and his teammates never doubted him. Loughran has been scoring freely throughout the campaign and is the championship top scorer for Thomas Davis.

“We saw how good he was in the game and how much he has scored throughout the championship. He has that in and we have that all over the pitch as well so we were delighted and never doubted him at all.”

Thomas Davis don’t know who they face yet in the semi-finals. Cross IIs are the only team remaining who they can’t face and they take on Middletown on Thursday night in the last quarter-final while An Port Mor and Clonmore are through to the semis as well.

“We were in the final a few years ago so we have good team. We have a good mix of boys with experience but we have a lot of young lads coming through and we have a lot of boys there with a lot of talent and we’ll not doubt ourselves going into the semi-final either.”
