Carrickcruppen have won three championship matches in a row and it’s all down to momentum says Adam Matthews. They lost their first round clash to Clann Eireann but have bounced back impressively.

Barry Flynn’s men came from ten-points down to upset the odds and overturn the Harps in round two. They followed that up with a ten-point win over Dromintee, knocking them out of the competition.

Last Saturday evening, they recorded another championship win over Granemore at Silverbridge. A first half goal from Eoin Woods, their top scorer in the competition, was the key to victory.

“The first week against Clann Eireann, it couldn’t have been much harder,” Matthews told Armagh TV. “They’re a seasoned team and could have won Ulster last year so there’s not many better teams in Ireland never mind Armagh.

“We had to dust ourselves down. It was a right scalp, we thought we’d get a good performance against Armagh Harps and we got that and then Dromintee, we’d beat them in the league and they’d beat us.

“We really fancied our chances on home turf in Cruppen and that’s three wins on the bounce now in senior football. We have a bit of momentum behind us and hopefully we’ll get another win this weekend.”

The face the mighty challenge of Crossmaglen in the quarter-finals this weekend. Saturday is their first appearance in the last eight of the Senior Championship since 2013 and their first meeting with Cross since 2014.

While the Rangers outfit are vastly more experienced at this level, Matthews insists his team know all about knockout football. Most of the players in their group have won Intermediate Championships in the last few years.

“We’re maybe lacking a bit of senior experience but most of us have won two Intermediates in 2021 and 2024,” Matthews added. “We know what it’s like playing knockout football week on week and the training.”
