An Port Mor 2-3 Middletown 0-17

Middletown are the first team through to the Junior Championship final following a convincing win over An Port Mor. While An Port Mor hit the net twice, they only registered five scores on the day.

They were little match for Middletown, who were impressive throughout the entirety of the contest. The eight-point victory sees Paddy McArdle’s team qualify for the decider for the first time since 2008.

Up front, Chris McCann Sean Og McGuinness and Fionnan O’Braonain proved impossible to stop, sharing 0-13 between them. Paul Gaffney gave a man of the match display with Ruairi McCann and Tyler Dynes were others that caught the eye.

Charlie McArdle was also impressive and he opened the scoring inside the opening two minutes of the game. McCann and McGuinness tagged on their first scores of the day before Mark Donnelly opened An Port Mor’s account.

The Division 3A league champions then got their noses ahead when Cormac Kieran kicked a goal. It was all Middletown for the next 30 minutes, split by half time, as they rattled off ten unanswered points.

Scorers from O’Braonain (free), McGuinness (2), Ruairi Grimes (2) and McCann (2) put Middletown six-point ahead at the half time break. They headed into the changing rooms leading 0-10 to 1-1.

McGuinness and O’Braonain (2) grew their own personal tallies at the start of the second half before Kieran split the posts at the other end. Finnin McKenna gave An Port Mor a lifeline when he raised their second green flag.

It did little to impact Middletown however as they hit another scoring spree. McCann (2), Martin Moan, and O’Braonain raised white flags as John McLaughlin offered An Port Mor’s only response in the final few minutes.
