There were games across the Senior and Intermediate championships in the second weekend of the u21 competition.

Senior Championship

There was only one game in the u21 Senior Championship this weekend and it took place on Friday night. It was the meeting of Clan na Gael and Pearse Og at Davitt Park with the hosts coming out on top.

Last year’s beaten finalists Clan na Gael edged out their visitors with two-points to spare in the end. The Ogs were ahead by the minimum of margins at the halfway mark, leading 2-5 to 1-7 after 30 minutes.

Ryan McGahan and Josh Hunter raised the two green flags for the Ogs while Caomhan Toland hit the net for Clans. James Austin posted a second goal for the hosts in the second period, helping them win 2-17 to 2-15.

That sees Clan na Gael joint top of their group along with Armagh Harps, who defeated Dromintee last weekend. Dromintee are currently sitting at the bottom of the table, just under the Ogs, due to score difference.

Intermediate Championship

St Peter’s had a large opening round victory against Shane O’Neill’s on Sunday afternoon, winning 3-15 to 1-11. Goals from Austin McAreavey, Oisin Haughey and Conan Moore (penalty) were the main scores for the Lurgan men.

Ballyhegan picked up a handsome triumph in the first round as they proved too strong for Eire Og at Craigavon. Aodhan McGrane and Mark McKenna (2) claimed the all-important three-pointers in their 3-12 to 0-7 win.

Naomh Colum saw off Patrick Rankin on Sunday afternoon with three-point splitting the teams when the full time whistle sounded. Padraig O’Keefe was responsible for both of their majors as they picked up a 2-12 to 1-12 victory.

Granemore advanced to the next round of the competition as Madden, who have reached the Senior Championship final for the first time since 1998, conceded the game. Craobh Rua and Cullyhanna are due to lock horns on Monday night.
