Derrynoose 1-12 Tullysaran 0-9

Derrynoose saw off Tullysaran to claim Intermediate Championship honours with six points to spare in the end. Sinead Quinn’s first half major was the defining score as it allowed her side to hold the opposition at arm’s length.

Quinn was the star of the show for the winners and she deservingly picked up the Player of the Match award. She rattled off 1-6 throughout the game and was a constant threat from the full forward position.

It was Quinn who opened the scoring with a free inside the first few minutes but Tullysaran made the best start. Hannah Duffy, Eimear Hayes (free) and Eva Conway all raised white flags early on.

Caoimhe McNally got Derrynoose’s end of the scoreboard up and running again but her score was cancelled out by Eimear Mullen. Scores from Sinead and Maeve Quinn got Derrynoose back on level terms.

Quinn then bagged the game’s only goal and Derrynoose never looked back. Niamh Murphy drove her team four points ahead before free takers and Armagh county teammates Hayes and Quinn exchanged frees.

The pair then split the posts at either end of the pitch from open play before McNally grabbed her second of the game. That left Derrynoose five points to the good when the half time whistle blew, 1-8 to 0-6.

Hayes and Quinn continued their accuracy in front of the uprights, posting two scores apiece at the start of the second half. Hayes then narrowed the gap to four but her effort was matched at the far side by substitute Alicia McKearney.

Tullysaran battled hard to find the scores to keep them in contention but just couldn’t raise any flags. Instead, it was Derrynoose who shot over the final point of the afternoon, with Maeve Lennon getting her name on the scoresheet.
