Knockout football arrived to the Junior Championship last weekend as four teams lost their places in the competition. Lissummon, Eire Og, Dorsey and Killean were all knocked out via the playoffs.
Clady racked up the biggest score and largest winning margin of the weekend, seeing off Killean 3-21 to 1-4. St Michael’s earned a 10-point victory over neighbours Dorsey on Sunday, 2-12 to 0-8.
Redmond O’Hanlon’s and Mullabrack also earned their spots in the final eight of the Junior Championship. Those quarter-final ties take place across Saturday and Sunday of this weekend.
Lissummon are out of the championship, but their full forward Darren Hughes is top of our hot shots list. He knocked over 0-8 in their defeat to Mullabrack last Friday evening to bring his overall tally to 0-23.
Likewise, Eire Og were knocked out last Saturday, but Diarmuid McCluskey is currently the second top scorer in the Junior Championship. McCluskey fired off a total off 0-22 for the Craigavon men.
Joe Lindon of Redmond O’Hanlon’s is the only player inside the top four scorers to remain in the championship. He has accounted for 0-20 so far in the campaign and O’Hanlon’s face Middletown in the quarter-finals this Sunday afternoon.
Michael McVerry was the leading light in attack for Dorsey throughout their championship run. It came to an end on Sunday past as they fell to St Michael’s, but McVerry kicked 0-18 across three games.

Adam Canavan has been one of the main men for Redmond O’Hanlon’s throughout the campaign. The towering midfielder had rattled off 1-13 so far and will want to extend that personal haul.
O’Hanlon’s attacker Daragh McNulty along with Clady sharpshooter Liam Doyle have both scored the exact same. The pair are currently sitting on 2-9 ahead of the weekend’s knockout clashes.
Jack Rafferty has been the go-to man on the edge of the square for Ballyhegan with 3-4. Jason Kelly of Collegeland has contributed 0-13 so far while Middletown’s Ruairi McCann has nailed 2-7.
